Shakespeare Schools Festival: Teachers As Directors

Date: 2004 – 2008

Events: CPD design and delivery for directors on all festivals May 2004 – 2008. Nationwide delivery.

Match: Shakespeare Schools Festival were looking for a partner with high artistic and education standards who could design powerful work to enhance and enable teachers not only to direct their productions but to develop themselves further as practitioners. We drew on our pool of lead associates with the experience of performing and directing Shakespeare with the country’s leading main stage companies. Work focused on building an ensemble, directing styles, creating the world of the play and the power of story. The day had to accommodate both the diversity of the many plays to choose from and the fact that some teachers were very experienced and others just keen.

Outcomes: Four years of wonderful feedback from participants, made this work truly rewarding for everyone who took part. Teachers valued being equipped with the tools required to take back to the rehearsal room and celebrated the opportunity to experiment and learn in a safe environment: “This is the best inset I’ve ever been to. It’s given me the confidence to return to my students with a more creative approach”. (click/ link to dvd)
